Healing from Within: Transforming Trauma into Triumph

When I first began my journey, I never imagined that understanding a healthy relationship or healing from childhood trauma would become a significant part of my life story. Through a path of self-discovery, I've uncovered powerful tools that transformed my life, which I now want to share with you.

The Roots of My Journey: Identifying Childhood Trauma

Growing up as the oldest of five in a stressful environment, I later realized that my experiences led to complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD). This acknowledgment was pivotal; it was my light bulb moment, helping me understand my struggles with anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. By comprehending these roots, I could begin to heal and nurture healthier relationships.

Four Steps to Healing: Unveiling the Daily C.A.L.M. Practice

Navigating my healing journey, I stumbled upon essential skills that truly helped me heal—more than 15 years of talk therapy ever did. These are encapsulated in the Daily C.A.L.M. Practice.

  1. Create a Self-Care Schedule and Set Healing Intentions Healing begins with a dedicated self-care routine that prioritizes our well-being. By ensuring vital habits, like quality sleep and nourishment, align with our values, we lay the foundation for a balanced, emotionally regulated life. These self-care practices are crucial for handling overwhelming emotions.

  2. Address and Reduce Vulnerabilities Recognizing and addressing vulnerabilities is vital in maintaining emotional stability. This involves scrutinizing our relationships and ensuring they are reciprocal and supportive. By setting healthy boundaries, especially in relationships with emotionally challenging individuals, we protect our healing journey.

  3. Learn What They Don't Teach You in Talk Therapy While foundational, talk therapy isn't always enough. I discovered dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and yoga, particularly Ashtanga Yoga, to be exceedingly powerful. These tools provide mindfulness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness, fundamentally altering how we handle emotions and relationships.

  4. Master Daily Practice for Peace and Connection Daily practices, like yoga and mindfulness, anchor us in peace amidst life's chaos. Dealing with trauma symptoms mandates regular, intentional self-care. By incorporating these practices, we confront and release stressors, enabling us to experience enduring self-love and tranquility.

My Personal Transformation: Living with Purpose

Sobriety in 2018 was pivotal in my healing. Once dominated by the turmoil of emotional instability and unhealthy coping mechanisms, my life transformed into one of healing and purpose. My dedication to a daily practice and mindfulness moved mountains within me, cultivating peace both internally and externally.
