Healing Trauma Isn’t About “Never Getting Triggered Again”

Be wary of those who say "You'll heal your trauma in 8 weeks." Have I healed my trauma?

My answer is both yes and no.
Yes — I’ve come a long way. I’ve healed layers of trauma, rebuilt my life, and created rituals that give me peace and connection. But no — I still get triggered. The difference is: now I have tools.


The Truth About Healing Trauma

Healing doesn’t mean triggers magically disappear. Healing means you develop the skills to recognize them, regulate your nervous system, and respond in new ways.

For me, that looked like reducing trauma-driven reactions and replacing them with daily practices that helped me ground, connect, and communicate.

It wasn’t easy. I won’t sugarcoat it. The path has been challenging, messy, and at times, discouraging. But my determination to feel better — and not just survive — kept me going.


What Helped Me Most

Over 20+ years, I pieced together tools that became the backbone of my own transformation:

Yoga + Meditation — Daily grounding rituals that helped me regulate my body and calm my mind.
DBT Skills — More transformative than 15 years of talk therapy, these gave me practical ways to manage emotions, communicate effectively, and set healthy boundaries.
Survivor Support — Learning from others walking a similar path reminded me I wasn’t alone.

These practices taught me not only how to manage symptoms but how to create the life I always desired — a life filled with confidence, connection, and peace.


The Daily C.A.L.M. Practice

From my own journey, I created The Daily C.A.L.M. Practice, a program that combines:

  • Self-led style yoga + meditation for grounding

  • DBT workshop-style tools for emotion management + communication

  • Rituals for daily nervous system healing and relationship repair

It’s the exact method I wish I had before I spent 15 years in therapy only to be handed a book recommendation.

I can’t promise you’ll never be triggered again. But I can promise that you’ll walk away with tools to navigate your emotions and use them as fuel for growth — with more confidence and grace.
